Yesterday I had my first post-chemo mammogram and sonogram to get a look at the very types of images that started me down the path of a breast cancer diagnosis six months ago.
It was really interesting to see yesterday's images compared to those from March. There is a clear-cut difference between what is there now and what was there then. Big areas of concern that caused grim faces on the radiologists and nurses faces in March ... and those areas were no longer visible. Comparing the images from March to yesterday brought smiles and joy to the room ... theirs, and mine. That is good news, it means that chemo was effective in killing the cancer cells that were present.
Of course, mammography can't say that I don't still have cancer. It can only show us areas of concern. The mastectomy is still medically necessary, as is the planned radiation. All steps of the treatment plan have to be put into action to ensure my optimum survival. But it's a great start!
